Bryce Harper is known for his relentless hustle, and that was certainly the case after a wild play that put him upside down in his own dugout Saturday afternoon.

The Philadelphia Phillies first baseman was tracking down a foul ball from Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley that drifted toward the first base dugout.

As he got close to the camera railing, Harper leaned in to take the shot. But instead of grabbing the ball, he fell upside down into the well.

Harper did well and stayed in the game as the Phillies crowd at Citizens Bank Park applauded for his hard-nosed effort.

Harper remained in the game, which ended in a 12-4 loss for the Phillies to their NL East rival.

Heading into Sunday, Harper was given the day off by manager Rob Thomson, although he said it was already planned since he “didn't play much in the spring, and then he looks good on camera.”

“We try to take care of him. The first month we have two days off,” Thomson said, according to ESPN. “It's like spring training without the extra 44 players. And with a left-handed game, we're going to bring in some other guys. We're just going to protect him.”

The Phillies started Alec Bohm at first base instead of Harper, who said he “felt pretty good” after Saturday's game.

The two-time MVP has been a crucial cog in the Phillies' machine as they made back-to-back NLCS appearances, most recently falling to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023. They reached the 2022 World Series but lost to the Astros from Houston.
