The suspect suspected of burning down a Texas home, killing a woman, was arrested Friday, Galveston police said.

In a news release, officials said Courtney Allen Thompson, 20, of Galveston, was arrested Friday, March 8, in connection with a Feb. 29 home fire that left a woman dead.

Investigators ruled the fire an arson and a homicide.

On February 29, authorities reported that when Galveston firefighters responded to the fire, they found three people trying to escape the burning structure and quickly got them out safely.

Authorities later found a fourth person, Renita Hawthorne, 55, unconscious inside the home.

Hawthorne was transported to the University of Texas Medical Unit, Galveston Trauma Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries, officials said.

“I just wish I could bring her back,” Sharonda Hawthorne, Renita's cousin, told Fox 26. “We're just in disbelief right now.”

Fox 26 reported that Renita Hawthorne was in her single-story elevated home with her daughters and boyfriend when the fire broke out.
