PennDOT is monitoring a landslide along University Boulevard in Moon Township.

WELL, KRISTEN, MIKE HOOKSTOWN GRADE ROAD IS CLOSED RIGHT NOW BETWEEN FEDEX DRIVE AND MONTOUR RUN ROAD. IF YOU TAKE A LOOK RIGHT DOWN HOOKSTOWN GRADE ROAD, YOU CAN. SEE UP ON THE HILLSIDE TO THE LEFT THERE. THERE ARE DUQUESNE LIGHT CREWS WORKING TO GET TREES, DEAD TREES. WE’RE. TOLD, OFF OF POWER LINES. ONE MAN TELLS US HE WAS WALKING DOWN THIS ROAD A LITTLE BIT EARLIER TODAY WHEN HE SAW THOSE FALLEN TREES ON THE LINES, AND. SAW THEIR EFFORTS TO REMOVE THEM. TWO THERE WAS TWO. THEY WERE DEAD. BUT THEY WERE LAYING ON THE LINES AND AND MAKING THEM SAG REAL LOW. NOW, I DON’T KNOW IF THEY BROKE ANY OF THE LINES, BUT BUT AS SOON AS THEY CUT THAT TREES DOWN, THOSE LINES SPRUNG BACK UP IN THE AIR. BEFORE THEY CAN REOPEN, HOOKSTOWN GRADE ROAD MOON POLICE EXPECT DUQUESNE LIGHT CREWS TO BE WORKING ON THOSE LINES FOR AT LEAST TWO MORE HOURS. ALSO IN MOON TOWNSHIP, PENNDOT SHUTTING DOWN THE SOUTHBOUND LANES OF UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD NEAR STATE ROUTE 51 AND STOOPS FERRY ROAD DUE TO AN ACTIVE LANDSLIDE. AND YOU CAN SEE PART OF THAT HILLSIDE CONTAINING GOING TO SLIP. BRIDGET CLERKLEY AT TEAM TURF LAWN CARE SAYS SHE NOTICED THE HILL SLIPPING AND ROCKS FALLING PRIOR TO THIS WEEK’S RAIN, BUT NOTHING TO THIS EXTENT. WHEN WE DO GET A LOT OF RAIN, I’LL NOTICE MAYBE SOME TREES, SOME ROCKS COMING DOWN, DOWN. UM, BUT NOTHING REALLY BAD. I KNOW THEY HAVE SOME KIND OF BARRIERS THERE SOMETIMES TO KIND OF CATCH WHATEVER FALLS, BUT FROM I MEAN, THIS MORNING WHEN I CAME IN, I WAS ABLE TO PASS. I DID SEE THE THE ROAD COVERED IN DIRT AND ROCKS AND STUFF. AND WITH THAT HILLSIDE CONTINUING TO SLIP, PENNDOT HAS MADE THE CALL TO GO AHEAD AND KEEP THAT ROAD THERE CLOSED OVERNIGHT. PennDOT is monitoring a landslide along University Boulevard in Moon Township after days of heavy rain. The southbound lanes between State Route 51 and Stoops Ferry Road are closed.Brijette Clerkley at Team Turf Lawn Care said she has noticed the hill slipping in the past due to rain, but not to this extent.“You look around, there’s all these hills and huge rocks and stuff, and the amount of rain that we’ve been getting lately — it is kind of scary,” Clerkley said.PennDOT said the hillside is still moving, so the road will remain closed overnight. They’ll reevaluate on Thursday morning.Hookstown Grade Road was also closed between FedEx Drive and Montour Run Road as Duquesne Light crews worked to repair damaged power lines.“There was two, they were dead, but they were laying on the lines and making them sag real low. I don’t know if they broke any of the lines, but as soon as they cut that tree down, the lines sprung back up in the air,” Louie Comport said.Moon Township Police estimated the road would be closed until around 6 p.m.
