Reese Witherspoon's career has been filled with memorable roles, from a surprising law student in “Legally Blonde” to the wife of country music legend Johnny Cash in the biopic “Walk the Line.”

Witherspoon was born March 22, 1976, in New Orleans to parents Betty and John Witherspoon. Witherspoon started modeling at a very young age and landed her first major role in “The Man in the Moon” in 1991. After that, she landed roles in “Jack the Bear” and “A Far Off Place” in 1993.

Witherspoon put her acting career on hold for a short time in hopes of earning a degree from Stanford, but a busy career in Hollywood prevented her from finishing college.

In 1996, Witherspoon starred in “Fear” and “Freeway.” In 1999, Witherspoon was in “Election” and “Cruel Intentions,” a film in which she starred alongside Ryan Phillippe. She married Phillippe the year the film was released. They share two children, Ava and Deacon. Witherspoon and Phillippe divorced in 2006. She then married Jim Toth in 2011. The two share their son, Tennessee. Witherspoon and Toth divorced in 2023.

It was 2001 when Witherspoon starred as Elle Woods in the comedy “Legally Blonde.” A sequel to the original film was released in 2003, titled “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde”.

Witherspoon starred in the popular film “Sweet Home Alabama” in 2002, and she won the Academy Award for best actress for portraying June Carter Cash in the film based on the life of Johnny Cash, “Walk the Line.”

In December 2010, Witherspoon joined the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2014, she produced and starred in “Gone Girl” and “Wild.”

Witherspoon is no stranger to the big or small screen. In 2017, she found success on television with the show “Big Little Lies”, which won an Emmy for outstanding limited series. She then appeared on “Little Fires Everywhere” and “The Morning Show.”

Aside from her work in television and film, she is also the founder of her own book club which she started in 2017. The book club has developed a large following, with almost 3 million followers on Instagram.
