The Boys should go beyond the 5 seasons initially planned

The creator of the series, Eric Kripl, returns to his previous comments and does not exclude the possibility of extending it by a few seasons.

This series does not know the “super hero fatigue”. Since 2019, the adaptation of the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson has conquered the small screen with a series of humor and hemoglobin, very trashy and gory and which sets the milestones for what society would be if the heroes dressed in A cape was not there to save the world, but rather to seize power. Quickly, The Boys has become one of Amazon Prime's flagship series – so much so that it was renewed for a fifth season before the fourth was even released. But for the creator and the studios, the adventure may not end there.

Asked by Reverse, Eric Kriplecreator of the series, hinted at the possibility that The Boys be extended for a few seasons… And why not count fifteen seasons in total like its previous series supernatural ! As he explained, when he was allegedly told: “I've since learned not to try to name seasons like the person who, without exaggeration, is literally the most wrong person in the history of entertainment about how many seasons their show would have.”he would have replied: “You're right, this is ridiculous. I have to learn to shut up. And that's what I will.”

He added :

“No one in all of human history was as wrong as I was in speculating about how many seasons this series would need. So I'm not going to make the same mistake again. The record for the stupidest guy to estimate the length of his streak in the Guinness Book of World Records should be illustrated with a photo of me.”

He thus returned to his decision announced in 2020 in a Q&A on Twitter: “I think five is a good number.”

A real hit on Amazon Prime, the reason for this extension would come from a creative need on the part of the creator, and (perhaps) economic arguments coming from the studios. Why end the goose that lays the golden eggs? Although it is often difficult to predict how many seasons a series will have, because the variable is calculated in particular by taking into account the budget allocated to the show and the success encountered, to The Boys, no worries.

Vernon Sanders, executive officer at Amazon, was already teasing for Entertainment Weeklylast year, the possibility of other adventures beyond season 5:

“Eric has an idea that could last for years. (…) So, it may still be a little early to talk about that, but we believe in Eric. And if Eric is interested in continuing, we will be the first on the front line to work with him.”

While waiting to know the future of the series, season 4 will be available on June 13 on Amazon Prime. The official synopsis details: “The world is on the brink of collapse. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscular thumb of the Protector, who consolidates her power. Butcher, who has only months to live, has lost Becca's son and his position as leader of the Boys. The rest of the team has had enough of his lies.
