Rochester-Monaca Bridge closure starts June 11

WE’RE GETTING YOU READY, THOUGH. PENNDOT SAYS THE 67 DAY CLOSURE IS NEEDED FOR A LONG LIST OF REPAIRS. SO PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS FOUR REPORTER SHELDON INGRAM SHOWS US HOW DRIVERS ARE BRACING FOR THE CHANGE. PEOPLE WHO USE THE ROCHESTER-MONACA BRIDGE ARE GETTING READY FOR SOME CHALLENGING DAYS AHEAD. WHEN THE BRIDGE CLOSES TOMORROW AT NOON. WHAT ARE YOU EXPECTING NOW? AS A WAY OF INCONVENIENCE? OH, TRAFFIC BACKUP, BIG TIME. SO JUST GOT TO PREPARE FOR IT. THERE’S NOTHING THAT WE CAN DO. THEY’RE NOT GOING TO CHANGE IT SO THAT IS WHAT DRIVERS EXPECT IN THE COMING WEEKS. PENNDOT DISTRICT 11 SAYS THE ROCHESTER-MONACA BRIDGE CARRIES 18,000 VEHICLES DAILY OVER THE OHIO RIVER. NECESSARY REPAIRS ARE THE REASON FOR THE SHUTDOWN. THEY INCLUDE EXPANSION, JOINT REPLACEMENT, A NEW CONCRETE DECK OVERLAY, STEEL AND CONCRETE REPAIRS, AND SIDEWALK AND FENCE REPAIRS. SOME DRIVERS ARE WILLING TO TOLERATE THE LONG CLOSURE IF IT MEANS A SAFER BRIDGE. FIX IT. GO AROUND, LEAVE THE HOUSE 15 MINUTES EARLY. THE BRIDGE CLOSES TOMORROW AT NOON AND IS SCHEDULED TO REOPEN AUGUST 20TH IN BEAVE

Rochester-Monaca Bridge closure set to begin Tuesday

PennDOT says the Rochester-Monaca Bridge over the Ohio River will be closed through Aug. 20

PennDOT District 11 has announced that the Rochester-Monaca Bridge in Beaver County will close for over two months, beginning on Tuesday.The bridge closure is expected to last until Aug. 20 for construction work, including expansion dam joint replacements, painting, steel, concrete, sidewalk, barrier and fence repairs.PennDOT says it carries nearly 19,000 vehicles daily over the Ohio River. PennDOT District 11 has announced that the Rochester-Monaca Bridge in Beaver County will close for over two months, beginning on Tuesday.

The bridge closure is expected to last until Aug. 20 for construction work, including expansion dam joint replacements, painting, steel, concrete, sidewalk, barrier and fence repairs.

PennDOT says it carries nearly 19,000 vehicles daily over the Ohio River. Posted detour routes will send traffic over the East Monaca-Rochester Bridge.

Below are the posted detours:

Northbound traffic

  • Take Pennsylvania Avenue (Route 4044) eastbound to 17th Street
  • Turn left onto 17th Street/North Route 51
  • Cross the East Monaca-Rochester Bridge
  • Turn left onto North Route 51/Route 65
  • Take the exit ramp on the right for South Route 18/East Route 68 toward Rochester
  • Continue on Brighton Avenue
  • Follow the roundabout to Rhode Island Avenue/South Route 18
  • Follow Rhode Island Avenue to the Rochester-Monaca Bridge

Southbound traffic

  • From the bridge, take Rhode Island Avenue to the Rochester roundabout
  • Follow the roundabout to Brighton Avenue toward South Route 65/Route 51
  • Take the ramp to southbound Route 65
  • Continue to the left-hand off-ramp for South Route 51
  • Turn right onto the East Monaca-Rochester Bridge
  • Turn right onto Pennsylvania Avenue
  • Continue westbound to 9th Street
