The federal government will reimburse New York City $106 million to help the city continue to respond to the migrant crisis, Sen. Chuck Schumer said. DN.Y., announced on X Thursday.
“New York will receive an additional $106 million from the federal government to reimburse migrant-related costs,” Schumer wrote.
Anne Williams-Isom, deputy mayor for health and human services, said at a news conference that the $106 million is a delayed part of a larger $150 million aid package promised last summer.
“We appreciate the productive collaboration of our federal partners and will continue to work closely with them so that the money can be released,” Williams-Isom said. “We will continue to advocate for significantly greater support, as well as comprehensive immigration reform.”

Schumer also attacked Republicans in announcing the funds, calling on them to stop blocking the “strong, bipartisan border bill.”
“Now Republicans must stop blocking the strong, bipartisan border bill that can deliver more,” he wrote.

According to Mayor Eric Adams, the Big Apple spent $1.45 billion to help migrants in the 2023 fiscal year.
New York City has rented entire hotels to house some of the tens of thousands of migrants who arrived last. Other migrant housing arrangements include cots in schools and temporary placements in tents, a cruise terminal and a former police academy building.

More than 140,000 migrants have arrived in New York since last year, overwhelming social services in the sanctuary city, prompting officials to demand more help from the federal government.
