Manager speaks out after truck crashes into building

UPDATE: According to the Murrysville fire chief, the driver of a tanker truck was traveling east off Route 22, when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the side of Bowser Collision Center off of William Penn Highway.”A semitruck, it was a water tank that was empty at the time. He had some difficulties coming off the highway, lost control. Ended up going approximately 30 feet into the building,” said fire Chief Pat O’Mahoney. At the time of the crash, manager Derek Severns was inside the facility.”Just loud. And then kind of, the ceiling started to fall. They broke some water lines, so water was spraying everywhere. It was just kind of shock. It didn’t really register kind of what even happened. I mean, you knew what happened, but it just kind of didn’t really register,” Severns said. The crash did not compromise the integrity of the building, but the fire chief says the company will have to rebuild the entire office space. “Mostly it’s a lot of cosmetic stuff. The exterior wall obviously needs to be replaced, the entire office space and the front of the building here was damaged. The sprinklers were activated when the truck went in, so it caused quite a bit of water damage as well,” O’Mahoney said. Bystanders heard the commotion and were stunned by the damage left behind. “I’ve seen cars in buildings. My dad’s been a police officer for over 30 years, so I’ve definitely seen things like this, but never a tanker or anything to this magnitude,” Mason Lisovich said. Only one person was transported from the scene to the hospital, and that was the driver out of precaution. Thankfully, none of the workers were in the area where the crash happened. ________________________________________________________________________A tanker truck crashed into a business on Route 22 in Murrysville, Westmoreland County, on Friday afternoon.Watch the breaking news report from Murrysville in the video aboveSky 4, Pittsburgh’s only news chopper, showed the crash scene at Bowser Collision Center in the 4400 block of William Penn Highway. The video showed the tanker stuck more than halfway inside the building. One person was taken to the hospital.
