A Georgia alligator was “arrested” and loaded into a police car after making an unwanted appearance in a resident's driveway, video shows.

The Chatham County Police Department released footage of the alligator “arrest” in a Facebook post on May 25. The incident took place near Savannah on Friday.

“When an unwanted visitor showed up in this neighborhood Thursday evening, our Corporals Blackledge and Stapleton sprang into action,” police said in their Facebook post.

“Watch how they captured the alligator, took it in the back of a patrol car and released it into the wild.”

Body camera footage shows officers patting the alligator's mouth and restraining the reptile, before charging it and placing it in the back of a police car. The reptile was then shown being released into the wild.

Residents liked the video and many residents wrote amused comments.

“Have you read him his rights?” one person joked.

“Poor alligator. I've been in the back of one of these explorers too,” joked another.

Other residents praised the officers for showing courage in fighting the alligator.

“Thank you again. You wear many hats and you wear them well,” one Facebook user wrote.

“Country boys make it happen,” another comment read.
