Britney Spears biopic moves forward at Universal

Oops (they) said it again! Directed by Jon M. Chu (Sexy Dance 2, Wicked), the latter will be entirely based on the singer's memoir released last year.

“So happy to share with my fans that I'm working on a secret project with Marc Platt. He's behind my favorite movies…stay tuned.”

About the subject, Variety and other American media outlets were quick to confirm that a biopic on the artist's life had indeed been commissioned by those who had produced 8 Miles with Eminem – Universal – and that it would be directed by Jon M.Chu, a director whose filmography breathes musical films… From Sexy Dance 2 has Wickedhe has proven himself in this field, and he has also directed big-budget entertainment (GI Joe 2, Now You See Me 2).

With the title still unknown, this film will be entirely based on Britney Spears' autobiography, The Woman in Me (in English : Woman in Me). In this one, the interpreter of “Toxic” tells the story of her early days at Club Mickey on Disney Channel where she was alongside Christina Aguilera and Ryan Gosling, her meteoric musical rise with intergenerational hits, but also her difficult relationships and the bad behavior of her exes like Justin Timberlake, and of her father who placed her under guardianship.

At the time of its publication in 2023, rumors were already circulating about a possible screen adaptation by Reese Witherspoon, Brad Pitt or Margot Robbie. But those concerned quickly denied it.
