Accident outside White House security fence leaves one dead, police say

An accident occurred Saturday evening in front of the White House, killing one person, according to police.

Metropolitan Police responded around 10:45 p.m. Saturday evening to reports that a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed had collided with an exterior perimeter gate of the White House complex.

Safety protocols were implemented, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement issued by the secret services.

“Safety protocols were implemented as officers extricated the vehicle and attempted to render aid to the driver who was discovered deceased,” according to the Secret Service.

There is no threat to the White House.

The fatal crash portion will be turned over to the Washington Metropolitan Police Department's Crash Investigation Unit and the Secret Service investigation continues.
