Winners

Asset

Trump defied all expectations, even some of the most conservative estimates of the 2024 election. By notable margins, Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in several key battleground states, with the Fox News Decision Desk predicting that he would win the election by mustering the necessary 270 electoral votes before a number of other key states were called.

Republicans

Trump's projected victory at the top of the ticket was followed by significant victories for Republicans across the board. According to the Fox News Decision Desk, Senate Republicans are expected to retake the Senate majority in 2025, racking up victories in previously blue West Virginia, Ohio and Montana. There are still several pending Senate elections in swing states, giving the party hope of securing an even larger majority.

Losers

Chuck Schumer

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is one of the biggest losers in this particular election, as voters permanently removed his party from the majority in the upper chamber. Instead, he will lead the minority in the new Congress. Democrats suffered projected losses in West Virginia, Ohio and Montana, destroying any chance they had of retaining the majority. They also failed to flip any of their Republican targets, like Texas or Florida. There are still several Senate elections in swing states that could increase the GOP's majority in these elections.

Sounders

Political polls failed to accurately predict Trump's expected decisive victory in the 2024 election. RealClearPolitics polling averages underestimated the former president, placing him behind Harris in key states where he was expected to win and showing Trump leading by a smaller margin than he ultimately did in other battlegrounds. Results from a respected Iowa pollster predicted the state would be led by Harris, and ended up being in double digits when Trump took Iowa.

Democrats

As a whole, the Democratic Party has suffered a devastating blow from voters across the country. Not only was their presidential candidate roundly rejected by the American people, but the implications of that loss further caused the candidates to fall across the board, according to Fox News Decision Desk projections. Incumbent senators from some swing states are engaged in battles for their political lives that could take days to resolve. This comes as the party has already lost two blue seats in Ohio and Montana. House Republicans are also optimistic that they can win the Republican trifecta in Washington, DC.
