A few hours after the death of Quincy Jonesdied at the age of 91, Will Smith pays tribute to his mentor, who got him started in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Because Quincy Jones was one of the major creative forces behind the cult 1990s series, both producer and composer of the cult song “Yo Home to Bel-Air”!
Posting his tribute on Instagram, Will Smith acknowledged how much he has been inspired by Jones throughout his career:
“Quincy Jones is the true definition of a mentor, a father and a friend. He showed me the best parts of myself. He defended me. He nurtured me. He He encouraged me. He looked after me when he needed to. He let me use his wings until mine were strong enough to fly.”
Quincy Jones had in fact imposed Will Smith in the role of Fresh Prince of Bel-Airat the time and also made an appearance in the series, in his own role, in season 1, in 1990.
