Barry Sonnenfeld's improbable anecdote: “We had to evacuate the set for three hours…”
Before slapping, he let out prouts… Barry Sonnenfeldthe director of Men in Blackhas just told the most embarrassing anecdote about Will Smith. Speaking on the “Let's Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa” podcast, he revealed that the then-31-year-old actor brought the action comedy set to an epic level.
It's 1997. Will Smith is the star of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He comes out of the hit Independence Day and therefore turns Men in Blackalongside Tommy Lee Jonesunder the direction of Barry Sonnenfeld. While having to film the scene in which Agent J and Agent K are in a transforming car that moves at very high speed and flips, both actors had to be “hermetically sealed in the basket which was used for the car” says Sonnenfeld, who describes what happened next in a very colorful way:
“There are locks to keep the pod from opening and keep them from falling out. I say, 'Start the camera.' And in the headset I hear Will Smith say, 'Oh my God, I'm so sorry . Tommy, I'm so sorry. Baz, take the ladder.” And you hear Tommy say, “It's okay, Will. don't understand what's happening. So we run with the ladder to get them down from there And Tommy stretches his leg to get down the ladder as quickly as possible. let out a huge fart. He's a fart. Some people are, that's the way it is. And you really don't want to be trapped in a very small, sealed space, with a Will Smith fart. sitting next to him in an attraction at Disneyland, believe me!
And the director concludes by assuring that the set must have been “evacuated for approximately three hours. I know it's incredible. No, you know, he's a lovely guy. It's just that he farts.”
We are now waiting to know the version of Tommy Lee Jones of the incident!
