Why the New Generation of Actors Irritates Winona Ryder

“There are some who just aren't interested in movies.”

She was a teen star. She knows what it's like. But she admits she's not really in tune with the new generation. Winona Ryder yet works with all the kids of Stranger Things for 10 years or with Jenna Ortega in Beetlejuice 2. But in Esquire, she says she is “went from the youngest person on set to the oldest and I'm fully aware of that…”

Winona Ryder explains that “Social media has changed everything, and I know I sound old saying this. I'm very aware of it. Part of me is like, Oh my gosh, am I at that point? Telling kids to turn the music down? The thing is, I really believe that there's such an abundance of film history, of movies, it's so rich, that I would like the younger generation of actors to take a little more interest in it. Not necessarily to live in the past, but to study what's been done..”

Because the actress too often hears her young colleagues express a certain indifference for the 7th art. She insists in the Los Angeles Times:

“I don't want to sound desperate… but there are a few people who just don't care about movies. The first thing they ask is, 'How long is it?'”

Even though she doesn't mention any names, it's hard not to see an echo of recent comments from Millie Bobby Brownhis classmate Stranger Thingswho said in an interview: “People come to me and tell me to watch this movie, that it will upset me etc. But in fact, how long am I going to have to sit there in front of the screen?
