Liane Moriarty hasn't even written the book it's supposed to be adapted from yet…
We're not going to go back to Monterey any time soon. If Big Little Lies has a good chance of returning for a season 3, the boss of HBO calms the actresses' enthusiasm, Nicole Kidman in the lead, who have been campaigning for months for the ordering of a third season.
It's not quite on the agenda at HBO yet. “The reality is that we are waiting for the book of Liane Moriarty“, says Casey Bloys, in reference to the next work by the Australian author, which must be a sequel to Big Little Lies. “We need to read the book first, before we consider making a new season of it“.
Moriarty confirmed last September to RadioTimes.com (on the occasion of the release of another book, Here's One Moment), be working on a new volume in the life of Madeline and her rich friends. “All I can tell you is that I'm writing a sequel to my own book, a continuation of my own story. Because I wrote Big Little Lies when my own children were little. So the children in the story were in kindergarten. Now, my children are all teenagers, so they provide a new wealth which will make these children teenagers in the future.”.
Liane Moriarty thus announced a jump in time for this sequel which should take place approximately a decade after season 2.
“But it's still an early-stage consideration, so I can't really tell you much, other than the Big Little Lies heroines are all back and raising teenage girls now…”
HBO therefore intends to read the book, when Liane Moriarty will have written it. And if it's good, will consider making it a season 3 of Big Little Lies. Suffice to say that this could take a few months, or even several years.
