The filmmaker points out Hollywood's obsession with remakes: “But I've already seen this story!”
He always has very strong opinions on films in general. After defending Joaquin Phoenix and Joker 2against and against the rest of the world, Quentin Tarantino today confides his fed up with remakes and explains that he has no desire to “rewatch” Duneeven made by Denis Villeneuve.
“I've seen David Lynch's Dune many times. I don't need to see that story again. I don't need to see sandworms and spice. I don't need to see a film that says the word “Spice” in such a dramatic way!”
It's in Bret Easton Ellis' podcast that Quentin Tarantino said, citing other examples to point out Hollywood's propensity to remake everything, all the time:
“It's one remake after another. People ask me: Have you seen Dune? Have you seen (the new series) Ripley? Have you seen (the new series) Shogun? And I say: no, no, and No !” And Tarantino asks: “There are six or seven Ripley books! If you're going to make another Ripley book, why make the same one they've already done twice? I've seen this story twice before, and I don't like it I didn't really like it in either version, so I'm not really interested in seeing it a third time. If you did another story, then it might be interesting and worth giving it another chance.”
Eventually, Quentin Tarantino thus completes his argument in a scathing manner:
“I saw Shōgun in the 80s. I watched 13 Hours. It's good. I don't need to watch that story again, I don't care how they do it. I don't care Don’t care if they take me and put me in ancient Japan in a time machine I don’t care, I’ve seen this story before!”
