John Mulaney has also already declined the Academy's offer.

Who will host the Oscars on stage at Hollywood's Dolby Theater on March 2, 2025? Over there, in the heart of the Los Angeles hills, that's apparently the question that's raging.

The reason ? Jimmy KimmelABC's in-house presenter, reportedly declined the role after several years of loyal service. Last year, the comedian and host of the Jimmy Kimmel Live! since 2003, launched into his introductory monologue at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony by saying that he had “always dreamed of presenting the Oscars exactly four times”which is now done.

Kimmel's journey with the Oscars has had its ups and downs, and especially its cult moments. In 2017, he paid the price for an organizational mistake when Warren Beatty announcement La La Land as the winner of the Oscar for Best Picture instead of Moonlight. The following year, he was tasked with hosting the ceremony in the midst of the #MeToo movement. After that, he took a few years off, and the Academy experimented with a hostless ceremony in 2019, 2020 and 2021 before turning to a trio of actresses, Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes And Regina Hallfor the 2022 edition (note that Kimmel thus escaped the impressive slap delivered by Will Smith on the cheek of Chris Rock after a clumsy joke).

2023 thus marks its big return, with the triumph of Everything Everywhere All at Oncefollowed by a double with the 96th edition this year, strongly criticized by Donald Trump on social networks. A remote intervention, to which Kimmel responds live, asking why the former American president is not yet incarcerated. A small improvised dig launched between the performance of “I'm Just Ken” by Ryan Gosling and a flashy sketch John Cena arrive on stage naked as a worm.

Beyond the happenings, cult monologues and other hilarious sketches, according to IndieWireJimmy Kimmel at the Oscars is above all an increase in audience share of 13% between the 2022 and 2023 ceremonies. Figures which have made the Oscars the most watched awards ceremony.

Four times but not five, then. Puck.news reports that Jimmy Kimmel will not be returning to the Dolby stage next year. An announcement that the American media outlet doubles by a second: John Mulaneyapproached after Kimmel's refusal, either.

It was, however, a logical choice, the comedian and screenwriter of Saturday Night Live having already presented the Governor Awards, a side ceremony organized by the Academy to pay tribute to the biggest names in cinema, this year.

John Mulaney's refusal was predictable: a few weeks ago, the actor confided to IndieWire prefer to be in charge of less important events:

“I hosted the Governors Awards, and I had a lot of fun doing it.he said then. I would say I am open to everything. Personally, I have an affinity for [quelque chose de plus discret]. It’s so much fun to try to do your best at an award show that’s not the biggest, like the Spirit Awards or the Governors Awards. They’re a little more relaxed and laid back. To go there and try to have a blast is a great feeling.”

But then, who will host the Oscars? The bets are open.
