Olivia Wilde would have disappeared in the middle of filming, and was replaced by her cinematographer Matthew Libatique and her star Florence Pugh!

We knew that tensions had broken out on the set Don't Worry Darling between the director Olivia Wilde and the main actress Florence PughAnd World of Real may have unearthed the reason for the quarrel between the two women. In the summer of 2023, the Hollywood site published a long article on behind the scenes of this film to be seen again this evening on TF1 Séries Films.

This chronicle of an isolated community in the Californian desert in the heart of the 1950s, in which a housewife sees her life turned upside down, was presented at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, but the actress refused to participate in his promotion, contenting himself with appearing on the red carpet and at the screening evening, without answering questions from the press. When the rumors of conflict between her and the director had started to swell, it had not nothing denied.

Warner Bros.

The American site explained that she would have become extremely angry following the disappearance of Olivia Wilde in the middle of filming. The latter had just started an intimate relationship with one of her male actors, Harry Styles, and they disappeared together while photos were planned. Unable to find her, Pugh decided to continue filming without her, with the help of Matthew Libatique, the cinematographer of Don't Worry Darling.

“The day Wilde disappeared, Florence and Matthew took charge of the film, reveals an anonymous source to World of Real. I would say that it was mainly thanks to Matthew that the cameras were able to continue rolling. They couldn't afford to see this filming end, so he tried to follow Olivia's vision as best he could. Once she came back on set like nothing had happened, that's when Pugh yelled at her.”

Don't Worry Darling having been meticulously storyboarded before its filming, Matthew Libatique and Florence Pugh were able to shoot part of it without the director, which today raises the question of who really directed it.

Upon its release, the film was generally shunned by critics, except for the performances of Pugh and Chris Pine. Here is its trailer:
