When will we see House of the Dragon season 3?

“Nobody complains because Denis Villeneuve takes two or three years to make a new Dune movie.” Ryan Condal tells us everything.

While season 2 of House of the Dragon will end this Sunday, August 4, on HBO (then Max in France), we already know that the Dance of the dragons is not finished. Season 3 has already been ordered. But when will it air?

Ryan Condalcreator, showrunner and screenwriter, responds to Première.

“I wish there was a solution so that we could release a new season every year. But that's not actually possible.”

Without clearly providing a precise date, the producer of House of the Dragon reveals to us that season 3 will not be for 2025, but more likely for 2026.

He then goes on to explain: “Just to film, it takes a year of preparation and shooting. And then you add six months for post-production and there you have it, 18 months gone by… We can save time on a few things, like writing, which can start during post-production. That's what we're doing right now. We're finishing post-production on season 2 and we're writing season 3 of House of the Dragon at the same time…”

So two years between each season of House of the Dragonis it too long?“It's not a problem in my opinion” resumes Ryan Condal for First. “We're making an event series. Just like there are event films. Nobody complains because Denis Villeneuve takes two or three years to make a new Dune film. We know why. And making a series the size of Game of Thrones is like making several event films in one season. So it takes time. Time that fans can use to take a breather, rewatch the previous season, refresh their memories. And then when the new season comes out, it's a real event that was worth the wait!”
