Between trauma, fear of not being a god and governance of the “free” world, Homelander will be at the center of the final chapter.
The end clap is approaching The Boys. Filming for its fifth and final season has begun. And the creator and showrunner Eric Kripke held a meeting with the American press yesterday, in New York, to talk about this final chapter.
“It’s really fun when it’s the end” he smiles in Variety while his actor Anthony Starradmits that he is happy to be able to conclude the saga: “Often your series gets canceled and you don't see it coming. You don't see the train derailing… We have known since day one that the series will have 5 seasons.”
So what will this final part be about? Eric Kripke explains that Homelander will be “literally crippled with trauma“, after becoming America's leader, thanks to his presidential machinations in season 4.”I think he wants to be a god, but he's a man. And this is slowly driving him crazy. Or maybe not so slowly… He finds it unbearable to grow old, to experience insecurity, the need for love. All these human and normal things revolt him.”
In EW, Kripke specifies that in season 5, the United States will now be the “kingdom” by Homelander. And the creator will play with this idea of the bad guy who won:
“Instead of having a villain who talks all the time about what he's going to do – and then being stopped by a hero – he's going to actually carry out his plan. He's taken over the country. It's his country now . What does this look like in season 5, and how do our characters struggle with this? We had a lot of fun writing this with the show's writers…”
This season 5 finale of The Boys is expected by the end of 2025 on Prime Video.
