English actor Mark Rylance is courted by Warner Bros. to be the first name in the casting.
Casting has just started for the new series Harry Potter. While waiting to know which children will have the difficult task of playing Harry, Ron and Hermione, a first name has obviously been ticked off by Warner Bros. : the English actor Mark Rylance is being seriously courted to reprise the role of Professor Dumbldore, legendary bearded headmaster of Hogwarts. According to Variety, Warner Bros. Television has not yet entered into negotiations, but the studio has contacted him to gauge his interest and availability.
World-renowned British theater actor, Mark Rylance made a name for himself late on screen. He was acclaimed for his role in the historical series Wolf Hall in the 2000s, before taking on roles with Steven Spielberg, first in The Bridge of SpiesThen The Good Big Giant And Ready Player One. He was also from Dunkirk by Christopher Nolan and more recently in the Don't Look Up by Adam McKay.
Aged 64, Mark Rylance would be the ideal candidate to succeed Richard Harrisreplaced on his death by Michael Gambon and to Jude Lawwho played the young character in Fantastic Beasts. Still, its casting is far from done: “We are aware that such a high-profile series will generate a lot of rumors and speculation. As we progress through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize agreements.” Warner Bros. responds soberly. according to Variety.
The series Harry Potter is expected in 2026, in France on Max.
