Norman Reedus tells what was changed.

In the sumptuous setting of Mont-Saint-Michel, the two favorite characters of fans of Walking Dead found themselves at the heart of season 2 of the spin-off series in France. “It was very cold. It was very windy”recalled in Entertainment Weekly Melissa McBrideto describe the filming of this sequence filmed in the north of Brittany.

Released from prison to help fight a zombie invasion, Daryl fights his way through the walkers as he knows how to do. On the other side, it's Carol who shoots the undead on sight. And when there are none left standing, then they fall into each other's arms. An intense and epic reunion sequence… that wasn't supposed to happen like this in the first place.

“It was originally written differently” revealed Norman Reedus for Entertainment Weekly. “In the first version of the scene, Carol found me in prison. And we talked about changing it.”

For what ? “Because I wanted the emotion to be different”explains Reedus.

“Not just, 'Oh, she finds me and I'm weak.' I wanted the scene to start weak, then for him to come out of his prison and turn into a killing machine, and then for there to be a moment where everything goes silent. The world, the noise around it no longer exists and this sequence comes on that almost sounds like it's not real. Suddenly, Carol is right in front of me. We worked on this a lot.

For the actor, this intensity was necessary. “It had to be different than just finding him in prison. The energy had to be out of this world for this reunion to happen. It had to be frantic, just pure adrenaline.”

Melissa McBride admits that “It was a wonderful setting for it. It needed this absolutely bizarre moment for Daryl. Because if she's looking for him, he has no idea. And to see her like that, on the other side of the world right in front of him, it had to be shown as such a crazy moment!”

Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon continues on Paramount + in France.
