With $51 million raised this weekend for 4,131 screens in the United States, Venom: The Last Dance easily takes the lead in the ranking, but without shining, however: the first opus gained 80 during its first three days of release, in 2018, and its sequel, Let there be Carnage90, in 2021 – a record score during this Covid period. The original film had ended its run beyond 850 million dollars, and its direct sequel had crossed the 500 mark.

In the rest of the world, the blockbuster still carried by Tom Hardy pocketed 124 million dollars, for a global start-up total of 175 million. A solid score, but which does not for the moment reimburse its 120 million budget, which must exceed 100 million. Variety nevertheless underlines that among recent superheroic productions, this spin-off of Spider-Man directed by Kelly Marcel for Sony cost much less than Deadpool & Wolverine at Disney or Joker: Folie à deux at Warner, who had a budget of more than 200 million greenbacks each, again without counting their advertising.

Paramount

Speaking of the sequel to Jokerit has already disappeared from the top 10, only a month after its release, where its predecessor had remained in first position for five weeks in a row, in 2019. Todd Phillips' film, mostly criticized by critics, has barely crossed 200 million dollars worldwide, of which only 57 were earned in the US. We are very far from the billion of the original! Contrary to Venom 3still PG-13, it is not recommended for minors in domestic (R-Rated, i.e. prohibited for under 17s unaccompanied by an adult). Finally, let us recall that the criticisms of The Last Dance are quite mixed, as for the first two parts: the American grade upon release is B-.

The film in second place is quite far behind Venom 3 : Smile 2 adds 9.4 million dollars in the second weekend for 3,624 screens, or 40.7 million raised in ten days. To complete the podium, the novelty Conclavestarring Raplh Fiennes, reached $6.5 million from just 1,753 screens. A score equivalent to Wild robot from Dreamworks, which has been out for five weeks and is still available on 3,427 copies. The animated film crossed $100 million domestically.

Joker 2 could cost Warner Bros. a hundred million dollars.

In the rest of the ranking, we can note that BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice is still hanging on for its eighth week in theaters. Warner Bros. had hesitated to release it in cinemas, Tim Burton's film is finally approaching 300 million dollars in the United States alone. Worldwide, it is 438 million, the 7th biggest success of 2024 behind Dune 2 And Godzilla X Kong.

Anorathe film by Sean Baker which won the Palme d'Or last May, opened in “limited release” last week, and, offered on only 34 screens in the USA, it took in $867,000 during the weekend. A very encouraging score.

The rankings for the next two weekends should look more or less like this one, given that few new releases will be offered in North America before Thanksgiving, at the end of November. The 22 will be released Gladiator II And Wickedthen on the 27th, time for the traditional Disney animated film at the end of the year, Moana 2. Before that, alone Hereby Robert Zemeckis, drama for which the filmmaker reteams with his actors and his screenwriter from Forrest GumpAnd Red Onea Christmas action comedy starring Dwayne Johnson, will be screened nationwide. Clint Eastwood's latest film, Juror #2will be offered only in “limited release”on less than 50 copies.

In this context, if the start of Venom 3 is correct without being extraordinary, the film could hold up well until the big releases at the end of the month.
