The saga continues in bookstores, in the comics of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá.

Farewell Hargreeves. Or almost. As the final season ofUmbrella Academyin 6 short episodes, is now on Netflix, no need to look for Five in a season 5. The streaming platform has put an end to the fantastic drama which ends here. But the story will continue elsewhere.

First, the original comic strip of Gerard Way And Gabriel Ba is still in progress. So the fourth volume has been in the works for a year and has not yet been released in bookstores. There is no guarantee that it will be the last. So, even if the first three seasons of the Netflix series adapted the first three volumes (Apocalypse, Dallas And Hotel Oblivion), the literary saga could take a very different direction. This is revealed by Steve Blackman, the showrunner of Umbrella Academyto Entertainment Weekly:

“The truth is that Gerard and Gabriel are still working on the next volume of the comic and they talked to me about it. We decided to end after four seasons but the comic will last much longer. So there will be gaps.”

Steve Blackman also specifies that graphic novels “will last even longer than the number of seasons of the series.” So there should be a volume 5 after volume 4. The ending may therefore be different, but if certain elements have been incorporated into that of the Netflix series: “I told them where we were going this season, and vice versa. A lot of moments from Season 4 came out of their brains. They said, 'This is where we're going, we'd love for you to incorporate that,' and I said, great!”

In addition, books Umbrella Academy – not comics – came out this year, like Young Blooda young adult novel spin-off of Umbrella Academy written by Alyssa Sheinmel that tells a story from the characters' youth, when they were still a team of teenage superheroes. There is also Umbrella Academy: The Commission Handbookwhich serves as a reference book to explain the mythology and timeline of the series. Written by Matt Epstein with illustrations by Jon Kutt, The Commission Handbook is an in-universe text intended for agents of the titular Commission, the paranormal agency that attempts to protect the timeline from interference by time travelers like Five.
