Trap is M. Night Shyamalan's biggest success in France since Glass

With 350,000 admissions in one week, the thriller starring Josh Hartnett is already a success.

For 5 years, the effect M. Night Shyamalan is struggling to make a name for itself at the French box office. Whether it is Old And Knock at the Cabin had a hard time attracting French spectators, peaking at just 300,000 admissions. But Trap will restore the filmmaker's reputation.

Released last Wednesday in theaters across the country, the claustrophobic thriller about a Josh Hartnett serial killer has had an excellent start: more than 340,000 admissions in its first week, M. Night Shyamalan hadn't experienced that since Glassthe end of his Unbreakable triptych, with James McAvoy, which ended its career above 1.2 million admissions. Not sure that Trap also reaches this high, but the film already allows the director to reconnect with success in France, with its biggest hit remaining Sixth sense (7.7 million admissions).

Trap does not, however, dominate the French ranking, since Deadpool & Wolverine remains in first place at the French box office, adding 520,000 new spectators for a cumulative 2.5 million tickets sold after three weeks. Strong, but less than The Count of Monte Cristo which continues to be a hit after almost two months of operation. Still clinging to its second position, it attracted 482,887 more curious viewers in its 6th week and now displays almost 6.3 million admissions, supported by a still impressive attendance rate (-17% only).

It should be noted in this weekly box office that the two other new releases of last week, Borderlands And Super Dadare content with an average start: around 150,000 admissions for the SF blockbuster and for the French comedy with Ahmed Sylla.
