Ethan Hunt's farewell? The first trailer posted online by Paramount sows doubt.
“Trust me, one very last time.” Will Ethan Hunt say goodbye, 30 years after his debut in the footsteps of Jim Phelps, under the leadership of Brian de Palma? Tom Cruise will be back in Mission Impossible 8next year. And the film will be surprisingly called: The Final Reckoning ! At one time, it must have been called Dead Reckoning: Part Twosince it will be a direct sequel to Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning released in 2023. But Paramount has changed its mind and the trailer which has just been released (see below) therefore reveals Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning.
Beyond the mention of the “final chapter” suggesting the conclusion of the saga, the video begins with a few snippets from Ethan Hunt's past. Like a nostalgic album retracing his journey in the franchise. And the slogan of the film is striking: “Our lives are the sum of our choices…”
SO Tom Cruise will he put away his spy gear for good after this opus? Absolutely nothing guarantees this at the moment. And besides, the 62-year-old actor is still in Olympic form (wink, wink) in this Dantesque trailer, where Ethan Hunt clings to planes in the air or explores a submarine -sailor shipwrecked at the bottom of the ocean. Crazy stunts, mainly performed in real life and which have been the strength of M:I for three decades. Première was able to attend the filming a few weeks ago, and we will be sure to tell you everything behind the scenes of such an explosive production in a future issue.
Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning will return to the cast Esai Moralesas well as Simon PeggVing Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Henry Czerny, Greg Tarzan Davis, Mariela Garriga and Indira Varma. New faces join the gang: Hannah WaddinghamJanet McTeer, Holt McCallany, Katy O'Brian, Nick Offerman and Tramell Tillman. Finally, the video reveals the return ofAngela Bassett as CIA Director Erika Sloane, six years later Mission Impossible – Fallout.
In Mission Impossible: Dead ReckoningEthan Hunt will have to bring down the dangerous AI program called The Entity which seems to predict his every move and could spell disaster if it falls into the wrong hands. After escaping a disastrous train crash at the end of Dead Reckoning, Ethan realizes that the Entity is hidden aboard an old Russian submarine. But Gabriel (Morales) is also on the trail…
Christopher McQuarrie is back as director for his fourth installment of the saga.
Note that the French trailer does not reveal an exact date (that of May 21, 2025 was mentioned previously). She only mentions a theatrical release next year. The American trailer is more precise and talks about a release of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in “May 2025”.
