“I don't think it's about money,” says the original voice of Buzz Lightyear about this new sequel from Pixar.

Last year, Tim Allen confided his surprise upon discovering that Pixar wanted to continue the adventure of Woody and Buzz in Toy Story 5 :

“For sci-fi fans like me, we say that four films were already a lot. So wouldn't five Toy Story films be too much? Except that it is said that whoever wrote this sequel managed to write one of the best parts of the saga and he assures that he would not have returned to do something less good. So, this should be a very, very interesting way to bring Buzz and Woody together…”

We did not yet know the name of the screenwriter of this sequel, but the actor was still confident: “He is one of the creators of the original saga who is at the origin of the film’s screenplay”, he said, several months before the announcement ofAndrew Stanton in command. Who actually participated in designing the previous parts of this saga, and who also won Oscars thanks to Finding Nemo And Wall-Eboth designed at Pixar.

A year after these first confidences, and while Toy Story 5 is already scheduled for June 19, 2026 in the cinemaTim Allen remains as confident as ever with Colliderexplaining having completed his “first five-hour recording session” for the return of Buzz Lightyear in the next Disney and Pixar film. He has lent his voice to the Space Ranger since 1995, alongside Tom Hanks who plays Woody.

“It's a very, very clever story, assures Allen about this new component. Want to do five? I don't think it's a question of money. I'm sure they (producers from Disney and Pixar) want it to be a success, but that's not why they did it. If they hadn't found a brilliant script, they wouldn't have continued, they wouldn't have called Tom and me. It’s very clever.”

Allen still admits to having had a little difficulty finding Buzz's voice, five years after the fourth opus was released in theaters:

“At the start, it was complicated, he says. But after maybe two hours, I was Buzz again. I'm so happy to be Buzz Lightyear, to be honest. It'll be fun. I think we have another year of voice work? We're going to record the third act, that's where I'm at now, and then we'll go back and rearrange it all. After that, I should come back about five more times, it goes like that. But I can tell you it's a really good story, guys. It’s really good.”

After three high quality episodes, Toy Story 4 had also made Pixar fans fear a sequel below the previous stories, at a time when the managers of the firm announced that they wanted mainly produce after-effects – ditto at Disney. The animated film, however, ended up receiving rave reviews, and it earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office in 2019. It also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Film that year. next, exactly like Toy Story 3 almost a decade earlier.

No more original and autobiographical stories, Pixar is all about sequels
