“Screamboat is my way of paying homage to Disney…” laughs screenwriter and director Steven LaMorte.
In early 2024, the first Mickey Mouse entered the public domain. Barely Steamboat Willy free of rights that it was already the subject of horrific parodies. We have notably seen it in animation, imagined as a disturbing sequel to the short cartoon that has become cult: The Return of Steamboat Willie was written by Joe Smith and directed by Kai Henry. Then there was Mickey's Mouse Trapan independent slasher directed by Jamie Bailey, in live action, and now here is the first photo of Screamboat.
The production had already revealed a teaser of the film last September, but without showing the appearance of the mouse. His reign of terror was then announced for the end of the month. Finally, this horrific production with David Howard Thornton -known for his role as Art the Clown in the franchise Terrify– was postponed to April by Iconic Events Releasing. Who shares to make amends a first image of this cinema icon transformed into a big baddie. It is Steven LaMortealready behind the creepy rereading of a childish hero, the Grinch (with The Mean Onein 2022), which was responsible for drawing inspiration from Steamboat Willy to scare the public.
Here is the pitch for this film also carried by Allison Pittel (Stream), Tyler and Jesse Posey (Teen Wolf), Amy Schumacher (The Mean One), Jesse Kove (Cobra Kai), Kailey Hyman (Terrify 2), Rumi C. Jean-Louis (Hightown), Jarlath Conroy (Day of the Dead), Charles Edwin Powell (The Exorcist III), Brian Quinn (Impractical Jokers) and Joe DeRosa (Better Call Saul): Screamboat follows a group of New Yorkers on a nighttime ferry ride, which turns into a massacre when a mischievous mouse begins to rampage on the unsuspecting passengers. This unlikely crew must come together to thwart the deadly threat before their relaxing ride turns into a nightmare.
“I'm very excited to share our mischievous monstrous mouse with the world, comments Steven LaMorte. Screamboat is my way of paying homage to Disney while putting a sinister and comedic twist on the classic. Watching David Howard Thornton bring Steamboat Willie to life with the magicians at Quantum Creation FX has been nothing short of amazing – he's hilarious and deadly entertaining. I can’t wait for audiences to meet Willie and see the chaos we’ve created.”
