James Gunn gives some explanations after the Dark Knight's cameo in the latest episode of the animated series Creature Commandos.
This will be one of the major challenges of the new DC Universe of James Gunn : succeed in getting fans to accept a new Batman !
First approach this week, through Creature Commandos. The Dark Knight made a quick appearance in the animated series currently underway on Max, the very first part of the new DC franchise. A brief cameo, on the occasion of episode 6, in which we see Batman arresting Dr. Phosphorus and throwing him in prison during a flashback. For the moment, we do not yet know who will hide under the mask of the Dark Knight in flesh and blood, knowing that he will be entitled to his live film The Brave and the Bolddirected by Andy Muschietti (scheduled for 2028).
But this animated appearance already allows us to understand one essential thing: Gunn has no intention of resuming Robert Pattinson to play his masked vigilante! The star of Matt ReevesIn The Batman and soon in The Batman 2will continue to exist on its side (in a parallel DC, just like the Joker of Joaquin Phoenix). But he will not be incorporated into the DCU, as this glimpse of his Dark Knight ostensibly demonstrates. In Creature CommandosBatman is indeed shown with significantly bulkier physical features than Pattinson's thin variant. No, the DCU will not have a slender Batman but rather a mirrored Batman (in the vein of that of Ben Affleck) with an impressive build.

James Gunn and the showrunner of Creature CommandosDean Lorey, provided after-sales support at Rotten Tomatoes, to justify the sudden introduction of this Batman : “We wanted to show that it already exists in our universe“, they say, even if James Gunn tempers by explaining that he wanted to keep a little mystery:
“When they showed me the first cut, there was a lot more Batman. I wasn't ready to commit as much to that. I wanted it to be more of a silhouette shape! It's a great way to show that Batman exists without showing too much. Because he already exists in this universe. When the Superman film comes out (next July), we will see that Superman also already exists and is already known to the inhabitants of Metropolis. no need to hear their stories again We're not going to do it again. yet another origin story!”
And James Gunn to conclude by promising that he adores Batman “since I was little” and that he planned “to do great things with him. He's the most popular superhero in the world and I can't wait for people to see more of him alongside Superman. Together…”
Batman will he be the surprise guest of Superman on July 9 at the cinema, six months after its surprise introduction in Creature Commandos ?
