If the ranking of films more or less follows the box office, that of series contains some big surprises.
As we take stock of the past year, Google reveals its ranking of the most searched keywords on its search engine. A good indicator of the trends of 2024, the phenomena which have marked society, the series which have created a buzz or the films which have really been the most popular.
When it comes to feature films, Google Trends 2024 clearly tracks the box office. In France, for example, it is A little something extra which was the most searched film in 2024, ahead of The Count of Monte Cristo And Vice-Versa 2. Or the podium, in order, at the box office of the year. The rest of the chart contains the other big hits from the last 12 months, up to Love phew. With the notable 6th place of Terrify 3. The ultra-gory horror film really made a splash in the fall.

Terrify 3 is even in the Top 10 of global Google searches of 2024, dominated by the biggest global box office success, namely Vice-Versa 2. The Pixar sequel is ahead Deadpool & Wolverine. And little surprise with Saltburnon the podium. Emerald Fennell's black comedy, starring Barry Keoghan, had a lot of buzz at the very beginning of the year.

A ranking dominated by Vice-Versa 2with the surprising presence of Beetlejuice2 in second position. And on the third step of the podium, we find one of the surprises of the year, It Ends with Uswith Blake Lively.

And the series then? THE Google Trends 2024 of television are obviously much more geolocalized. For example, two French series dominated searches in France. And number 1 is a big surprise: Anthracitea thriller in the Ecrins, was able to create a buzz, with its sect story, carried by Hatik, the rap star. Just behind, another criminal case: the first steps of Nolwenn Leroy as an actress were a hit on TF1 and Brocéliande comes in 2nd place. The thriller is definitely a popular genre among the French, since The Gentlementhe British thriller from Netflix by Guy Ritchie, completes the podium. We also find in 5th position the new crime series by Harlan Coben for Netflix (Double Trap), the TF1 police comedy with Arnaud Ducret (Mercato). And in the middle of all these thrillers, the farce slips in Fiasco and the bomb Fallout.

Fallout is even one of the rare series to have received unanimous support all over the world. In fact, it ranks second in the Top 10 Google Trends 2024 series, just behind the box My Little Reindeer and ahead of season 2 of House of the Dragon. Two Asian series, The Queen of Tears (South Korea) and Heeramandi: court diamonds (Pakistan) find a place in this ranking, where we also find Shōgun.

And we also find it in 5th position in the American top. A top 10 curiously dominated by the Netflix thriller, Griseldaabout the godmother of coke in Florida in the 1980s, with star Sofia Vergara. Follows a docuseries (unpublished in France), Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, which details the toxic behind-the-scenes world of children's television programming from the 1990s to the 2000s.
