A live-action drama based on the game of the same name,THE LAST OF USIn season 2, she will play the main character Abby.Kaitlyn DeverIn order to ensure safety on set, additional security staff were added. “The Last of Us” is a story about the dangerous journey of Joel, one of the survivors, and Ellie, a girl who has an antibody to the parasitic bacteria, in a world where civilization has collapsed due to an infection outbreak of a parasitic bacteria. In the TV version, Joel is played by Pedro Pascal and Ellie is played by Bella Ramsey.

Season 2 of the drama is planned to be a story based on the second game, “The Last of Us Part II,” but Abby is a character who has been controversial among fans since the game's release due to her complex personality. Abby's role in the drama is described as “a seasoned soldier whose black-and-white worldview is upended as she seeks revenge for those she loves,” but Dever was given additional security staff due to the risk of being harmed by malicious fans who dislike the game version of Abby.

When asked by the host, “Are you worried that Caitlin may have received hate for playing Abby?”, Merced frowned as she commented.

“There are some crazy people out there who actually, genuinely hate Abbie, who is not a real person – again, not a real person – and Caitlyn had to have extra security staff on set for her safety.”

Laura Bailey, who voiced Abby in the game, received criticism from fans who disliked her.She confessed that she had been subjected to serious threats that went beyond criticism. Although game developer Naughty Dog released a statement in support of Bailey, Bailey later recalled that she had also received threats against her then-newborn son.“It was very distressing and it taught me to stay out of the public eye,” Bailey said, likely out of concern that the same dangers might extend to Dever.

Merced is also heartbroken by what has happened, but praised Dever's performance, saying, “I want Caitlyn to win an Emmy. I'm so excited for everyone to see how amazing Bella and Caitlyn are.”

Season 2 of “The Last of Us” is scheduled to be broadcast and streamed on HBO and Max in the United States in 2025.
