Join Telegram Channel“What if a civil war broke out in America?” The powerful film “Civil War: America's Last Days,” which set the highest opening record in A24 history, has released a “360° Experience! Surrounding Sound Trailer,” the first movie trailer to use surround sound.
“It's like being thrown into the middle of a battlefield and being unable to move.” The film is garnering attention for its overwhelmingly immersive, “nowhere to escape” sound design. It was created by Glenn Freemantle, a genius sound designer who won the 86th Academy Award for Best Sound Editing for “Gravity.”
In “Gravity,” he recreated the “sounds of a soundless world” that humans fall into when suddenly thrown into outer space, taking many people from their theater seats into the unknown space of outer space and taking theater sound to the next level. In this work, he has taken on a new challenge: recreating a battlefield. With an overwhelming and meticulously calculated sound design, he will once again take the audience to an unknown experience.
This “360° Experience! Stereo Sound Preview” was planned to bring you a little closer to the immersive experience that Fremantle is aiming for. By wearing earphones, you can block out unnecessary sounds, while at the same time, the sound is designed to make you feel like you are immersed in the sounds of the battlefield approaching from all directions.
Regarding this first-of-its-kind effort in movie trailer history, Director Makoto Suzaki of trailer production company Baka the Baka, who was involved in the production, reflected on the differences from regular trailer production, saying, “Rather than conveying a story, we were conscious of creating a sense of realism in both visuals and sound so that you could experience the battlefield.” He explained that the most difficult aspect was, “Because <3D sound> can only be achieved in a studio, we had to imagine how the sound would sound (through headphones) while creating the trailer.” He sent a message to those who will be watching the movie in the future, saying, “This is a movie that will make you feel like you're on the battlefield, so be sure to head to the theater with the determination.”
The distinctive, sharp, high-pitched sound of fighter jet engines flying around, the sounds of buildings exploding in the city, the gunfight in the ruins where countless bullets are flying, the inorganic sound of camera shutters clicking as cameramen capture the moment, and the breathing of terrified people – all of these sounds that only those on the front lines of a battlefield can experience come at you from all directions, making this an immersive trailer that requires headphones.
“What kind of American are you?” The film is set in an America where 19 states have seceded from the federal government. A civil war has broken out between the government forces and the “Western Powers,” an alliance of Texas and California, and violent armed clashes are taking place all over the country.
“My fellow Americans, we are approaching a historic victory.” The authoritarian president, who has just entered his third term, makes a powerful television speech, but the fall of Washington DC is imminent. Four journalists who were in New York head to the White House to interview the president, who has not been interviewed once in 14 months. However, on the journey that has become a battlefield, they are engulfed in the horror and madness of the civil war.
“Civil War: The Last Day of America” will be released in Japan on October 4, 2024.
