The story follows young Liam Turner (Robert Timothy Smith), who still believes in Santa Claus. To prove to all his unbelieving friends that Santa Claus exists, he writes a letter to the big man inviting him to show himself. The only problem? Liam is not very good at spelling and addresses the letter to Satan (Jack Black). Satan, who never receives letters from children, is flattered and goes to meet Liam. Chaos ensues.
For this Satan Christmas, Bobby wanted someone who could play a role.”evil, but in a fun way“. Jack Black was the first and only choice. “Jack is just that guy who, with his arched eyebrows and grimaces, has always had a mischievous side, but he's eminently likeable. It's simply Jack”, confide the Farrellys in EW. “We never wanted to make it a horror film or anything like that. We wanted it to be comedic. So we had to play this iconic character in a way that the audience could have fun with.”
The Farrelly brothers claim to have made a family film in this way, “because it's Christmas. But you know what? Pete and I are the Farrelly brothers, so we wanted to put our twist on it, a twisted version of a Christmas story like this, without blowing it all up. We wanted there to be a softness behind it. So that’s the Farrelly brothers’ Christmas movie.”
Dear Santa will be released directly for streaming on November 25 on Paramount +.
