Elena, now an adult (and now played by Alba Rohrwacher) returns to Naples. She discovers that Lila (Irene Maioria) has become the boss of the neighborhood, having started her own business. In short, she has succeeded. In the process, Elena reveals that she is pregnant (!) while her mother's health declines and she must face the demands of the family and her ambitions.

This season 4 of My Brilliant Friend will premiere Monday, September 9 on HBO in the United States. It will be adapted from the fourth volume of Elena Ferrante's books, “The Lost Child,” which delves into the adult lives of Elena and Lila in the midst of their complicated friendship. The duo “finds himself in the turmoil of Italy in the late 1980s, as decades of political violence and social unrest draw to a close“, the official synopsis states.Between the demands of motherhood and career, between betrayals, threats, disappearances and natural disasters, Elena and Lila live in the same neighborhood again..”
