When you think of Superman, DC's leading superhero, the first thing that comes to mind is his thick chest and muscular arms. David Corenswet, who was chosen to play the lead role in the highly anticipated movie “Superman'' that will open the new DC Universe, talks about the body modification he underwent to achieve that visual appearance on the podcast “Manly Things (Sort Of)''. “I could no longer fit into any of my pants,'' he said.

Corenswet bulked up to a peak weight of 238 pounds (approximately 108 kilograms) for filming, as his body was not used to the increased weight.I didn't feel well” he confessed. He also jokingly said that he noticed that the sweatshirt he was wearing when reading the script was now a size 2XL.

“That was when I was at my peak weight,” he recalls, “and then I gradually lost weight before we started filming, and when we started filming I was about 228 or 230 pounds. So, basically, I could do it. I wanted it to be an excuse to gain as much weight as possible and see how it felt.”

According to Paolo Mascitti, who worked as a trainer for Corenswet's body transformation, Corenswet started training five months before filming, working out for two hours a day and gaining about 18 kilograms.

Superman is less an origin story and more about Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian legacy with his upbringing as Clark Kent, a man living in Smallville, Kansas. In the new movie, which is expected to put a lot of spotlight on Superman's inner life, we want to draw attention to not only Corren Sweat's strong physique, but also his acting ability.

New DUC movie in which Corren Sweat undergoes severe body modification“Superman” is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 11, 2025.
