Andrew Stockey gave Oakmont’s challenging course a try ahead of 2007 U.S. Open

The U.S. Open will be held for a record-tenth time at the Oakmont Country Club next year. The last time golfers hit the green for the championship in Oakmont was in 2016. Before that, the 2007 U.S. Open offered perfect weather with over sixty rounds shot in the 80s.It was the year when Tiger Woods dominated the game of golf but fell short to 35-year-old Angel Cabrera. The Oakmont Country Club’s website notes: “Smoking countless cigarettes during the final round, Cabrera was able to fire one of the only two under-par rounds on Sunday to claim the U.S. Open title.”Woods tied for second with Pennsylvania native Jim Furyk. Before the the professionals hit the course, Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 anchor Andrew Stockey got a chance to test out the course’s notorious rough and fast greens.More from the WTAE archives:
