But who will have hair long enough to embody him in the flesh?
There was Aladdin, Mulan, The Lion King or even The Little Mermaid. There will soon be Snow White, Lilo & Stitch (in 2025) and then Moana (in 2026). And Disney hasn't finished making live-action remakes of its animated films. Next on the list is called Rapunzel !
The studio announces that it has launched work on a remake of the classic released in 2010, a musical version of the Brothers Grimm story about the princess with long, magical hair. Michael Graceydirector of The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman, who has also just finished the Robbie Williams biopic (Better Man), is in discussions to produce this live version, while the screenplay is written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder).
Obviously, the whole question is who will play Rapunzel on screen. Mandy Moore doubled the princess imprisoned at the top of her tower at the time. But the former pop star, who has since passed on This is Us, is now 40 years old and it seems unlikely that she will be chosen. Casting is underway.
Rapunzel had grossed almost $600 million at the worldwide box office in 2010. For the moment, the live remake does not have a release date, but will certainly be planned to arrive in 2027 in cinemas.
