A judoka at the Paris Olympics refused to shake hands with his Israeli opponent after the match, as is customary, and was hit with instant karma, according to X users.

Tajik judoka Nurali Emomali refused to shake hands with his Israeli opponent, Tohar Butbul, after their round of 16 match on Sunday. Emomali, who won the match, chose to leave the mat without making the customary post-match gesture.

Before leaving the mat, X users pointed out that he said “Allahu Akbar” while holding up a prayer symbol, known as the “Finger of Tawheed,” which refers to the Islamic belief that “There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his prophet.”

Shortly after, Emomali faced Japanese Olympian Hifumi Abe, which ended in brutal fashion. At the end of the match, Abe slammed Emomali to the ground. Emomali extended his left arm toward the ground, but the force of the fall and Abe's weight caused his arm to bend and dislocate.

Emomali had to be carried away by Olympic staff due to the severity of his injury.

Social media users called his refusal to shake his opponent's hand in the previous match “instant karma” for poor sportsmanship.

“Bad athlete Nurali Emomali of Tajikistan refused to shake hands with Israeli judoka Baruch Shmailov and shouted 'Allah Akbar.' Emomali ended up with a dislocated shoulder and crying on the mat. Olympic-level karma,” said Michael Dickinson, executive director of the pro-Israel group StandWithUs.
