Still cold then a Christmas week warm up

Holiday travelers will have an easy ride this week too.

WELL, 516 IS YOUR TIME. IF YOU HAVE SOME LAST MINUTE SHOPPING TO DO, MAYBE YOU’RE HOPING TO GET OUT TODAY, OR MAYBE EVEN JUST HEADING TO CHURCH, OR TO WALK THE DOG. THE WEATHER NEEDS TO COOPERATE FOR THAT. HOW ARE WE LOOKING TODAY? RIGHT? WE’RE EASING OFF OF THE SNOW, BUT THE COLD AIR STICKS AROUND FOR THIS FIRST FULL DAY OF WINTER. TAKING A LOOK AT THE RADAR, CERTAINLY A MUCH DIFFERENT SCENE THAN IT WAS YESTERDAY. AT THIS TIME, AS THOSE LAKE EFFECT SNOW BANDS WERE REALLY JUST GETTING STARTED. THEY LASTED FOR THE BETTER PART OF THE DAY, REALLY JUST A SHORT DISTANCE. SAID A WHOLE LOT ABOUT HOW MUCH SNOW YOU SAW ON THE GROUND. SOME AREAS PICKING UP SEVERAL INCHES OF THAT SNOW JUST CONTINUING TO FALL THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF THE DAY. RIGHT NOW, JUST SEEING SOME SCATTERED SNOWFLAKES FROM YOUNGSTOWN BACK THROUGH PARTS OF LAWRENCE COUNTY, EVEN GETTING UP TOWARDS NORTH QUICKLY AS WELL INTO BEAVER COUNTY AROUND VANDERGRIFT, LEECHBURG. YOU’RE SEEING A FEW OF THOSE FLAKES AS IT CONTINUES ON INTO THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS OF WESTMORELAND COUNTY, ALSO BETWEEN WEST NEWTON AND CALIFORNIA. AND MEANWHILE, THOSE FLAKES JUST ON THE OTHER SIDE OF WEIRTON, THEY COULD CROSS INTO NORTHERN WASHINGTON COUNTY. AS WE GET THE DAY UNDERWAY. ALL IN ALL, THOUGH, SNOW SHOWERS ARE EASING UP. WE’RE GOING TO INTRODUCE A LITTLE BIT MORE SUNSHINE HERE AS WE WORK THROUGH YOUR SUNDAY. BUT YOU’LL NOTICE THAT’S NOT GOING TO HELP US OUT. TEMPERATURE WISE, HIGHS TODAY WILL BE STUCK IN THE MID TO UPPER 20S THE WIND NOT QUITE AS STRONG AS WE WORK THROUGH THE DAY, BUT CERTAINLY STILL SOME IMPACTS. THOSE FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES WAKING UP TO THOSE READINGS THAT ARE IN THE TEENS BY THIS AFTERNOON. WE’LL SEE THOSE NUMBERS A LITTLE BIT CLOSER TO WHAT THE ACTUAL THERMOMETER SAYS OVER THE NEXT FOUR DAYS, WE’RE MAKING A TURN AS WE MOVE INTO THIS CHRISTMAS WEEK, WE ARE TRACKING A WARMING TREND. HIGHS SKIP RIGHT AHEAD, CLOSE TO 40 DEGREES ON MONDAY. HEADS UP IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE TRAVELING LATE MONDAY OR GETTING A HEAD START ON THINGS ON CHRISTMAS EVE. COULD FIND A FEW RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS. THIS NEXT SYSTEM ZIPPING IN OUT OF THE GREAT LAKES. NOTHING HAPPENS UNTIL WELL AFTER DARK MONDAY NIGHT. IN FACT, THE BULK OF IT COMES THROUGH WHILE YOU’RE SLEEPING INTO EARLY CHRISTMAS EVE MORNING. NOT LOOKING AT MUCH, JUST A LITTLE BIT OF RAIN AND SNOW WITH MOST OF THE SNOW FLYING MAINLY NORTH OF THE 422. AS WE LOOK AHEAD TO CHRISTMAS DAY, TEMPERATURES STILL RUNNING AROUND 40 DEGREES OR SO. SHOULD BE NICE AS WELL. IF YOU ARE TRAVELING FOR THE FIRST NIGHT OF HANUKKAH AND STILL THE WARM UP CONTINUES. HIGHS FOR THE FINAL WEEKEND OF THE YEAR WILL BE AROUND 50 DEGREES. SO WITH THESE MILDER TEMPERATURES IN SIGHT, YOU’RE PROBABLY THINKING, YEAH, IT’S NOT GOING TO BE A WHITE CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR. AND YOU’RE RIGHT, WE’RE JUST GOING TO KEEP DREAMING THIS YEAR, EVEN THOUGH SO MANY STILL HAVE SNOW ON THE GROUND RIGHT NOW, A LOT OF THAT IS GOING TO BE MELTING THROUGH THE DAY TOMORROW. EVEN INTO CHRISTMAS EVE. THE TRUE DEFINITION OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS IS AT LEAST AN INCH OF SNOW ON THE GROUND AT DAWN CHRISTMAS MORNING. WE HAVE ABOUT 30% CHANCE HISTORICALLY, OF THAT HAPPENING HERE IN PITTSBURGH. LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS BACK IN 2022. AGAIN, ANY SNOW THAT WE DO GET MORE THAN LIKELY STAYS LESS THAN AN INCH AND IT WILL BE BOTTLED UP FROM ABOUT 422 POINTS NORTHWARD, EVEN INTO THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS. SO MAYBE JUST FRESHENING THINGS UP AS WE LOOK CLOSER TO CHRISTMAS DAY AND AS WE CONTINUE THROUGH THIS HOLIDAY WEEK AGAIN, TEMPERATURES WILL BE TRENDING A LITTLE BIT MILDER, UPPER 30S ON CHRISTMAS EVE. IF YOU ARE TRAVELING TO GRANDMA’S HOUSE AGAIN SHOULD BE EASIER AS THE DAY GOES ON JUST FINE. ON CHRISTMAS DAY 42. MORE THAN LIKELY JUST CLOUDY SKIES. SO PRETTY TYPICAL WINTERS DAY THERE FOR US HERE IN WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. AND STILL LOOKING GOOD AS HANUKKAH BEGINS AS WELL. AND OF COURSE, TEMPERATURES JUST CONTINUE TO CLIMB. THAT’S REALLY THE GIFT FOR ALL OF US THIS YEAR. ABSOLUTELY. AND WHILE THERE’S NO WHITE CHRISTMAS, THAT IS GOOD NEWS FOR TRAVELING. ABSOLUTELY. AND OF COURSE, THERE’S SO MANY FOLKS ON THE ROAD THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. SO YEAH,
