In the Kingdom of the Monkeys, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: what if you followed in the footsteps of these films that no longer need to be presented?
In the footsteps of cinema: discover the natural settings of Sri Lanka
Did you know that Sri Lanka was the location for many films? If you want to discover landscapes of rare beauty while exploring places that thrilled you on screen, this destination is for you! Here are three ideas for moving from fiction to reality.
A dive into the heart of the monkey kingdom
Released in 2015, the documentary film In the Kingdom of the Monkeys is one of the many emotional gems from Disneynature. He plunges us into the heart of the primary rainforest of Sri Lanka to discover the life of the toque macaques and more precisely that of Maya and her newborn. Beyond its well-edited and perfectly narrated story, this fictional documentary offers majestic panoramas, between temples and untouched nature. It also shows the diversity of animal species in Sri Lanka and highlights Polonnaruwa, the country's ancient capital. So why not go and experience the emotions of the film through an unforgettable journey? It's up to you to create your tour in Sri Lanka according to your desires!
The Kelani River: an ephemeral bridge, but eternal scenery
If you want to pay homage to the famous film The Bridge on the River Kwai, which was awarded 7 Oscars, you should head to the town of Kitulgala. Thrill-seeker? You can go rafting on the Kelani River, which appears in the British-American film, but also discover one of its illustrious settings: we are of course talking about the bridge.
Although the bridge that was used in the film is destroyed, it remains a marvel of cinema (it would have cost nearly $500,000!). You can now visit its reconstruction, but also walk along the Kelani River to explore diverse and majestic landscapes.
Follow in the footsteps of Indiana Jones!
Have you always dreamed of following in the footsteps of Indiana Jones? It is partly in Sri Lanka (more precisely in the Kandy region) that the prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, was filmed. The filming locations made it possible to find similarities with India, which had refused to shoot the film because of the script.
By going to this part of central Sri Lanka, you can notably visit Sigiriya and discover the famous rock from the film or go to the Victoria Dam located near the suspension bridge on which the cult scene of the confrontation took place final.
If you want to combine discovery of grandiose landscapes and film tourism, Sri Lanka is an ideal destination. So, more animal film, history film or adventure film? It's up to you to choose and plan the circuit that will thrill you!
