The San Jose State University women's volleyball team is in the Mountain West finals after its semifinal opponent, Boise State, forfeited its semifinal match.

It was the third time the Lady Broncos lost by forfeit to the Spartans this season, having also lost both of their regular season matches.

The forfeits came amid SJSU's transgender player Blaire Fleming becoming one of the conference's best players.

Those who oppose transgender athletes in women's biosports have cited unfair advantages for these athletes and teams. However, a USA Today columnist called those who refuse to play trans athletes a “real threat.”

“Despite all the cries we hear about transgender female athletes, it is cisgender women who push for the withdrawals that cost their fellow athletes playing opportunities and impose defeats on their teams,” Nancy Armor published in a column titled “Opinion: Decision at San Jose State.” A volleyball case reveals a farce of transgender hysteria.

“It’s these women, not the San Jose State player, who pose the real threat.”

Although his X account is private, Armor still received a lot of criticism for taking it online.

“Is your brain really that broken,” Clay Travis posted.

“Women standing up for WOMEN is not hysteria @USATODAY, it’s brave and about time,” another user wrote.

Another added: “Nancy Armor is a misogynist and hates women. I'm proud of my alma meter (sic) for not backing down even if it ends their season. All women in the Boise State program should keep the head held high I hope my daughter grows up and has your courage.

Boise State, Wyoming, Utah State and Nevada were among the conference teams to cancel games against the Spartans due to Fleming's presence on the team. They were aware that confiscation would result in a loss of their records, which ultimately helped SJSU secure its lofty position.

Earlier this week, federal Judge Kato Crews of Colorado, appointed by President Biden in January, denied a request for an injunction in a lawsuit filed by college volleyball players against the conference in an effort to prevent Fleming to play in the tournament and overturn their forfeit losses.

A dozen women jointly filed suit against Mountain West and its commissioner, alleging violations of Title IX and their First Amendment rights. The women include SJSU co-volleyball captain Brooke Slusser and two former Spartans as well as athletes from other Mountain West schools.
