Almost 20 years after its eight Oscars – including those for best film and best direction – Slumdog Millionaire could well have a sequel. Slumdog Millionaire 2 hasn't officially launched yet, but according to Variety, production company Bridge7 (led by Swait Shetty and Grant Kessman) has secured the rights to a sequel. Bridge7 struck a deal with Celador, the company that produced the original film (along with Film4). Bridge7 also acquired the television rights to Slumdog Millionaire.
“Some stories stay with us long after the credits roll and Slumdog Millionaire is one of them, without a doubt.”assure Shetty and Kessman in a press release specifying their desire to Slumdog 2.
It should be remembered that the film directed by Danny Boyle in 2008 is loosely inspired by the novel by Vikas Swarup published in 2005.

In their minds, Slumdog Millionaire 2 will tell the “next chapter of Jamal's (Dev Patel) journey“.
It's not yet known if Boyle or Patel or other cast members are expected to return. The project is clearly in the very early stages of development.
