Waiting for season 2, not yet ordered.

Those who grew up with Sex Intentions of the 1990s obviously remember the ending of the film. A tragic end for Sebastian Valmont, the character played by Ryan Phillippe. So did the Prime Video series, which takes up most of the plot, also kill its male hero in the midst of redemption?

Warning spoilers!

No, Lucien Valmont survived. It's him who is behind the wheel of his classic car, in the last scene, snubbing his sister Caroline, after thumbing her nose at the last minute (he slept with her mother).

Honestly, who's to say it's not worse than getting hit by a car?“, jokes co-showrunner Phoebe Fisher in TVline, in a nod to Sebastian's devastating end in the original film. More seriously, there is something very pragmatic about Lucien's survival. The creators of the series are considering their Sex Intentions in the long term, and if season 2 has not yet been ordered, “we weren't yet ready to say goodbye to Lucien…”

Prime Video

Zac Burgesswho plays young Valmont, says he learned during filming the fate reserved for his counterpart in Sex Intentions in 1999 (which he did not see). He then immediately demanded accountability from the producers, who reassured him, telling him that this was not the direction that Lucien's story would take. “I would say we chose emotional and psychological violence over physical violence” sums up the co-showrunner Sarah Goodman. “We wanted to see what would happen next with him, with everyone. So we couldn't kill him. We had to force him to behave very, very badly.”

After Caroline's low blows, “his heart is in pieces and he is bleeding openly. He is vulnerable after developing feelings for Annie. So while sleeping with his mother, he tells Caroline to fuck off” summarizes Burgess.

And so, the possible season 2 of Sex Intentions will tell the war between the half-brother and the half-sister: “War will break out between several characters” advance Sarah Catherine Hook (aka Caroline). “Almost every relationship fell apart a bit by the end of the season. Not that Caroline and Cece are completely mad. But I could see Cece finding out what Caroline did to Chadwick… So all hell might break loose in the sequel…”
