Deadpool and Wolverine's Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are teaming up again with director Shawn Levy. Filming is likely to begin over a year later, but the details have been revealed.

In November 2024, Reynolds revealed about his new movie, “I've been working on the script for a year. I'm writing the movie for myself, Hugh, and Sean.'' When the first news of the project by the Golden Trio arrived, the theme of the movie was unknown.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the title is “Boy Band.'' It is said to be a story about members of a former boy band (idol group) who are now middle-aged and reunite. When asked about his progress in an interview with the same outlet, Reynolds said: “I'm writing the second draft. The first draft was great and one of my favorite screenwriters, Jesse Andrews, wrote it. I'm on my own right now. We haven't decided on any dates yet, and we won't be filming anything for at least a year.”

The Andrews mentioned by Reynolds is the original author of “Me, Earl, and My Girlfriend'' (2015), and also wrote the screenplay for the film version. The writing of the script seems to be progressing smoothly, but it looks like it will be a while before filming begins.

If you cut only the theme of “a story of middle-aged former boy band members reuniting'', you can imagine that it would be a full-on comedy movie. However, according to the description, it seems to be a story that delves into the inner lives of boy band members who had unique experiences during adolescence. Reynolds says that many boy band members go through painful experiences, such as being betrayed by the managers they relied on, and that their spiritual growth is stunted in an environment where their self-worth is entrusted to screaming fans. I explained that there are times when I put it away. The story depicts the characters, who are always associated with their idol days, now in their 40s and 50s, trying to reclaim their lives. “I think there's something beautiful about that,'' he said of the concept.

Reynolds also revealed that “Boy Band'' will be made on a low budget, and that the majority of the budget will not be spent on paying famous actors. “Sean, Hugh and I are thinking of creative ways to make this film as cost-effectively as possible,” he said.

At this time, it is unclear whether Reynolds or Jackman will play the former boy band members. In any case, I hope that filming will start as soon as possible.
