A rally took place Friday to save the Anchor Hocking glass plant in Washington County.Workers gathered outside the plant, which has been a part of the Charleroi community for decades under various owners.More than 300 jobs will be lost if the company follows through with plans to close the plant by the end of the year.Republican U.S. Senate nominee Dave McCormick spoke to the crowd, urging action.”The fact that community leaders have had a chance to stand up and speak to this, the fact that this is going to be a story that’s going to get in the hearts and minds of people across our commonwealth, I think that’s step one,” McCormick said. “I’m not promising I have any sort of magic solution, but I am promising that if people of good conscience can focus on this issue, we’re hopefully going to get better decisions.”Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey also says he is working on trying to save those jobs. Casey sent a letter asking the company’s CEO to explain the decision to close the plant and seeking clarification on how it acquired the operation.
