Monday marked one year since a tragic house explosion in the Rustic Ridge neighborhood in Plum claimed six lives.Church bells across the borough chimed for six minutes: One minute for each victim. This happened at 10:23 a.m., the estimated time officials say the explosion occurred.People in the Plum community did say they are slowly healing from that day but for many, it has been tough realizing six neighbors, friends, and loved ones are gone.Along with the chimes, Plum Borough employees observed a moment of silence in remembrance.In July, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission reported they found no evidence linking the explosion to public utilities.As for where the investigation stands, the Allegheny Fire Marshal’s Office has still not determined the cause of the explosion. Officials released an update Monday saying this is still an active investigation; however, they cannot give a timetable of when that investigation will be complete.One neighbor said she understands the task the county has ahead of them, and the best she can do is offer any support she can.”It was such a tragic explosion, and what was left has to be just devastating. It was decimated. If you can ever come up with the answers, I’m not one to say, but I think that would be a very difficult task,” Susan Caldwell said. “It is a strong faith community, and our faith is getting us through. We, as a parish, are here for anyone, whether you’re a parishioner or not, here at Holy Family to reach out to us. If you need any help or anyone to talk to, we’re here. You don’t have to be a parishioner. We’re here to support the community and anyone who is still struggling after the tragedy.”A mass is scheduled to be held in remembrance at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. That service is happening at St. Januarius Church in Plum.
