Absent from cinemas for years, the former Malibu naiad takes on a strong symbolic role. The role of his life?
What if Pamela Anderson was the surprise of the next Oscars? We wouldn't have thought of writing these lines a few years ago, when the fallen Hollywood star found himself on the set of Dancing with the stars in France, in a naughty cameo in the Nicky Larson by Philippe Lacheau or in the fleeting beauty of a clip by Julien Doré. And yet, 2025 could well mark the year of the return of Pamela Anderson. Perhaps even that of its consecration.
Because the former beach bimbo is visibly stunning in The Last Showgirl. The third film of Gia Coppola (granddaughter of Francis Ford Coppola) won the special jury prize at the last San Sebastián International Film Festival and already enjoys a certain reputation. Notably because the story echoes – obviously – that of Pamela Andersonwho plays a sexy revue leader in Las Vegas, who must reinvent herself at fifty years after the closure of her venue. “Shelly is a showgirl in a Vegas show that abruptly closes after 30 years. As she deals with the consequences of the closure, she will also learn a lot about her own life, as well as the impact that the “showgirls left on Las Vegas” writes the synopsis.
It's difficult not to make the analogy with the end of the naiads ofBaywatchwho ruled their industry for a good decade before becoming outdated and plunging into nothingness. Pamela Anderson in mind.
The cast also includes another ghost (already an Oscar winner) Jamie Lee Curtisas well as Dave Bautista which continues its total post-Marvel metamorphosis. The young stars Kiernan Shipka (Sabrina) And Billie Lourd (Star Wars) will also be in the casting, and Jason Schwartzman (another member of the Coppola family) will make an appearance. Finally, Miley Cyrus wrote a new original song called “Beautiful That Way,” which she sings especially for the film. All the ingredients come together for a great prestigious indie success.
The Last Showgirl will be released in January 2025 in the United States. No date yet in France.
