Ohio man playing football in knee-deep water bitten by shark on Florida beach

An Ohio tourist was bitten on a Florida beach while playing football in knee-deep water on July 4, authorities said.

Authorities said the 21-year-old Ohio man was playing football in knee-deep water in New Smyrna Beach when the shark bit him on the right foot.

Police said the attack happened at 4pm on Thursday 4 July.

The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The July 4 shark attack came after four people were injured on a Texas beach the same day.

The South Padre Island Police Department and the U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Area confirmed to Fox News Digital that four people were injured in the encounter with the ocean predator on South Padre Island in the south coast of the state.

Police said the attacks took place around 11 a.m. local time along Beach Access 14, near the Wanna Wanna Beach Bar and Grill.

The 21-year-old's shark encounter comes after Florida was recently named the Shark Capital of the World.

THE Florida Museum of Natural History The International Shark Attack File found that the highest number of unprovoked shark attacks in the world have occurred in the Sunshine State, specifically in Volusia County, where 351 attacks have been recorded since 1882.
