While he is currently filming The Pitt, for the Max platform, the widow of the late creator Michael Crichton, reproaches the former Dr Carter for remaking ER, without her.
A few months ago, Noah Wyle tried to bring back EMERGENCIES. In the wake of the pandemic, he contacted the screenwriter John Wellsand discussions have been initiated with the estate of the creator Michael Crichton. But “The negotiations ended in failure” recently told Noah Wylewho therefore decided to create a new medical series of the same genre, which will be called The Pitt (emergency room in American medical slang).
A pirouette that was not much appreciated Sherri Crichton. The widow of Michael Crichtonis today taking legal action against Noah Wyle, John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill and Warner Bros. Television for abandoning negotiations to revive EMERGENCIESto develop this new series without them.
“The PittIt is EMERGENCIES ! It's not like EMERGENCIESit is not some kind ofEMERGENCIESit's not like EMERGENCIES. It is EMERGENCIES with the same executive producer, writer, star, production companies, studio and network as the planned reboot ofEMERGENCIES which was planned”.
The individuals named in the complaint are accused of breach of contract, breach of an implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, and intentional interference with contractual relations. In a statement to TVLine, Warner Bros. Television responded:
“The complaint filed by the Crichton estate is without merit, because The Pitt is a new and original series. Any suggestion to the contrary is false, and Warner Bros. Television intends to vigorously defend itself against these baseless allegations.”
The Pitt received a 15-episode order in March for the Max platform. It will not be a direct continuation of ER, and will not feature any characters from the original series. Noah Wyle will not reprise the role of Dr. Carter, but will play another emergency room doctor, this one named Dr. Michael Robinavitch, at a hospital in Pittsburgh (and therefore not in Chicago's Cook County).
The series will air in 2025 on Max and a first glimpse is already visible in this long trailer of the platform's upcoming programs (below):
